Here is the Tesla rig so far...
The clothing is made of multiple polygon objects on "3" smoothing. The pants and feet are from the Morpheus bodysuit texture. Should I model separate shoes and pants, or is this okay?
I then used [Create Deformers > Wrap] to attach the clothing to the Morpheus geo mesh. The clothes are now moveable with the rig.
There is a problem that I am still figuring out. On some areas of the rig, a little bit of the Morpheus skin can pass through the clothing when the rig is being bent. This is one example on the right arm:
I am still working on the Edison rig but I think the wrapping method will make Edison's round and large body to work.

He looks amazing Melvin! Great job! As far as the pants and shoes go, we don't need them since the camera won't show it anyway. But since you've done such a nice job already, you could finish up the model for yourself and it would make a really excellent portfolio piece. Also, I may get the chance to pitch this at the Disney Family Museum, so It would be awesome to show your work along with the presentation.
